Turkuaz Emlak in Kas

Kas history and environment
Kas is a small picturesque town, first mentioned in Lycian times as Antiphellos. Apart from typical tourist places it still has its traditional scenery. Small white houses with wooden balconies, the traditional market on Fridays, boats that take you to different places like Kekova or the Greek island of Meis from the lovely small harbour. The harbour town of Kas is located on the coast which extends from Antalya to Fethiye. Traces of ancient civilizations still remain, for example the Hellenic amphitheater, tombs, sarcophagus and ruins of ancient city walls.

Antiphellos was the name of Kas in Habesos, or Habesa, the ancient tongue of Lycia, and one of the oldest settlements in the region of Lycia. The rock tombs to the north-east of the town date from the 4th century B.C. In the acropolis of the ancient city lies a rock tomb formed like a Doric structure with Doric triglyphs on the facade. Inside the tomb is a frieze of dancing female figures. The acropolis was surrounded by a fortified wall, of which traces are to be seen on the facade facing the island of Meis (the Hellenic island of Kastellorizon).
